Lt. Cdr MacKintosh was placed on the Retired List on his own request on 21 February.

Note that HMS does not necessarily mean 'Her Majesty's Ship.' As Ian Mackintosh made fun of in his short-lived comedey series, 'HMS Thundercloud,' bases are also given the name HMS. It would have been during his posting on HMS President that Ian would have been working on his television series 'HMS Warship.'
